Started in 1989 by the Implix company, Getresponse claims to now have over 300,000 members. 2005 has ushered in several new enhancements to the Getresponse system with many of them being suggested by the user base. Getresponse is also well known for providing free marketing tutorials and telephone technical support to boot. With these new features and tools lacking in some of their competitions products, Getresponse has really positioned itself as a top contender for a remotely hosted autoresponder solution. If you are shopping around for an autoresponder system GetResponse has likely been at the top of your list. If not it really should be. These guys have been around since 1989 and offer some features not found in even the most expensive self hosted solutions.

You get quite a few cool bonuses for signing up to a Pro Account with Getresponse. I found plenty of excellent information in all of these items:

  • A DVD video interview with the CEO of Getresponse (this dude is a millionaire!) showing you exactly how he uses the system.
  • Ebook: ‘Killer Ezine Tactice’ by Lee Bensen.
  • Ebook: ‘ Unleash Your Internet Marketing Success’
  • Ebook: ‘Cash Flow eBusiness eBook’
  • Ebook: ‘How To Create Your Own Products’
  • Ebook: ‘Autoresponder With Your Domain Name’
  • 500 free ad exposures across the Getresponse network.

As you may have guessed Getresponse is a remotely hosted email marketing system allowing you to send an unlimited amount of sequential autoresponders to your signups, as well as fire off newsletters and effectively manage your lists.

Here is a run down of Getresponse’s main features:

  • Unlimited number of follow-up emails, that are queued in advance to be sent out on given dates.
  • Option to follow-up emails
  • Unlimited email message length.
  • Unlimited number of broadcast emails, so you can send standard newsletters as well.
  • Redirect subscribers to a "Confirmation" page on your web site.
  • Customizable "Remove" page.
  • Personalization features.
  • HTML function converts HTML messages into plain text for non-HTML email software.
  • Option to add custom variables to emails, such as from your sign up form.
  • Add or remove subscribers from one or more accounts.
  • Tracks performance of each email message.
  • Option to import and export your mailing list database.
  • Option to attach files to autoresponder, follow-up and broadcast emails.
  • Broadcast messages can be sent out immediately or queued in advance to be sent out on given dates.

Getresponse offers a well implemented tracking system. This feature enables you to track where your prospects' inquiries came from. So - for example - if you are running ads in ten different e-zines you will be able to see which ad was efficient and which one should be dumped.

Another feature I have not seen anywhere else is the implementation of an RSS feed. When you broadcast a message, like a newsletter, your broadcast is automatically added to an RSS feed you can make use of. In RSS feed settings you can also change many other feed options, including feed logo which will be visible in the majority of RSS readers, as well as feed title, description and feed owner link (eg. link to your homepage).

Getresponse will also remove bad e-mail addresses from your responder. If your autoresponder message is bounced back because the message is undeliverable, the system will automatically remove the bad address from the database for you. You can view the list of e-mail addresses which have bounced by clicking on the option "Prospects / Undeliverables" in the top control panel. This page shows all unique e-mail addresses that have been rejected by e-mail system.

I think where Getresponse stands hands and shoulders above other hosted solutions is with their product support areas. The tutorials included not only detail how to run and operate Getresponse, but how to write good emails, and how to get people to signup to your lists.

Technical support at Getresponse is stellar and I have yet to wait longer than a few hours for a response from staff. Also, if your support question cannot be answered via email Getresponse offers a toll free technical support line. A very nice touch indeed.

Overall Getresponse is a very solid and feature packed product which I can easily recommend. At under $18 per month, GetResponse offers excellent value-for-money. You can also sign up for a free account and begin testing these features immediately. Good luck!
